Steamed and fried modak

Ingredients:

Fried modak:
  • Wheat flour                                   -  1 cup
  • Sooji                                              - 2 tsps
For Filling:
  • Fresh grated coconut                      - 1 cup
  • Jaggery                                           - 1/2 cup
  • Fennel seeds                                   - 2 tsps
  • Cashews                                         - few
  • poppy seeds                                    - 1/2 tsp
  • Green cardamom                            - 4 to 5
Steamed modak: 
  • Rice flour                                       - 1 cup
  • hot water                                        - required to prepare the dough

Procedure:

Fried modak Procedure:

Step 1:
Mix wheat flour and sooji in a bowl.



 Step 2:
Prepare a soft dough b adding sufficient amount of water and let it rest for half an hr.


Step 3:
Grind all the filling ingredients into a fine powder and keep aside.



Step 4:
Add ghee in a pan and add freshly grated coconut in the pan along with jaggery.


Step 5:
Roll the wheat flour dough not too thin and not too thick and fill the above mixture in between.

 Step 6:
Fold it to half and seal it with the fork to obtain a pattern.



Step 7:

Deep fry until it turns golden brown on both the sides.

Steamed modak procedure:

Step 1:
Take washed, dried and finely powdered rice(freshly home made rice flour).



 Step 2:
Add Rice flour into the hot boiling water and prepare a soft dough by mixing it continuously without lumps.





 Step 3:
hold the small ball o the dough with one hand and rotate with other hand through corners to form a round, now fill the mixture in the middle and bring the corners together to mould it in the shape of modak.









 Step 4:
Steam the prepared modak for 10- 15 mins in a low flame in an idli cooker



 Enjoy the prepared modak on the occasion of Ganesh Chathurthi.
